Management Skills
The essential management skills for a manager are often listed as planning, organising, directing and controlling. The focus being on the work, analysing what needs to be done, deciding how to it and then getting it done. However, in most situations, the work will only get done if people are willing and able to do it. So a successful manager needs a broader skill set they need people skills. These include things such as the ability to communicate precisely and positively, the ability to select the right person for a task and to delegate the completion of agreed tasks, an awareness of the dynamics of their team and the ability to provide leadership and direction.
These activities provide a range of different scenarios in which new and potential managers can develop these and other essential skills.
